The Streamline IP portfolio originates entirely with Texas Instruments, developed through TI's direct participation in creating the HEVC/H.265 video coding standard and carried forward into the next-generation VVC/H.266 standard. These inventions emerged from TI's engineering contributions to the standardization process concentrated in the foundational coding tools of modern video compression, giving the portfolio a documented standards provenance that ties the patented technology directly to the development of the standards themselves. That the same technologies were adopted into both HEVC and VVC underscores the fundamental and enduring nature of TI's inventive work.
The acquired portfolio comprises 5 patent families consisting of 39 patents covering the core Main profile of the HEVC/H.265 and VVC/H.266 standards. Streamline IP also holds the exclusive right to license an additional 26 TI patent families, representing more than 145 patents, to key participants in the streaming market. Streamline offers non- exclusive licenses to both the acquired and exclusively licensed portfolios, with patent protection extending well into the 2030s.
The portfolio covers numerous fundamental coding tools at the heart of modern video compression, all essential to the core Main profile of both the HEVC/H.265 and VVC/H.266 standards. Covered technologies include inter-picture prediction, transform coding, reference picture management, context-adaptive binary arithmetic coding (CABAC), and entropy coding, capabilities on which both HEVC and VVC depend. This dual-standard relevance, spanning the current generation of deployed video compression and its successor, gives the portfolio deep claim coverage across the technologies used to decode video within the streaming ecosystem.
The Streamline IP portfolio is owned and licensed by Streamline IP LLC, a newly formed subsidiary of VideoLabs.
